Washington State is home to some of the best wineries in the world. One of my favorite for quality and price is Columbia Crest. Columbia Crest was chosen as the 2009 wine of the year by Wine Spectator, quite an honor. Their wines are hard to beat!
It is just a short drive (approximately 45 minutes, depending on your foot) to Columbia Crest from the Tri-Cities and well worth your time. The building is beautiful and the grounds immaculate. The real treat is the wine! I happen to be fond of their Cabernet and boy do they make a good one.
If you go, make sure to take a tour of their production and storage area. You will not believe how many oak barrels they have and the size of some of their production tanks.
Every so often Columbia Crest will have a warehouse sale. They sell by the case and their prices are great. This last month a small group of my friends drove down for this event. There were a number of good wines available, some for only $30 per case.

You have to get their early as the best bargains go quickly. This year, I didn’t want to miss my ride down so I just slept the night before on my recliner in my driveway. My ride was on time and the drive very enjoyable.
After a Relaxing Night Outside
When we left the winery we drove back to the Tri-Cities on Road 221. It is a long, fairly flat, straight road that is the subject of my next blog post. It involves the amazing story of the Shelby Super Car – Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo, the late Charlie Bigelow, and a world land speed record for a production car that held for nearly 3 years.
